Sometimes we just feel that we need a sign from the Universe. There are many different ways that we can seek out confirmation or clarity – pendulums, tarot cards, oracle cards and we can also just ask the universe directly for a sign. On the spiritual journey, many times people will notice numbers, feathers or animals that have a special meaning for them. One of the well-known numbers is 11:11 – which I consider to be a sign of validation, you are on the right track. I’m sure others may have a different interpretation, but that is what I’ve come to believe at this point in my journey.

I think it’s exciting to start to become more aware of these signs and their meanings. It really is something that is very personal, and the sign and method would be something that would make sense to you. It could be a specific animal or bug or specific number. I remember not too long ago – I kept on noticing beetles. Now I’m a nature person, so I am very observant of what goes on around me. I’m also outside quite a bit, so seeing a beetle to other people might not be noticeable. However, what I came to observe was that I kept on seeing different beetles, it wasn’t one or two and the way that they were showing up – sometimes was just quite laughable. I actually document the little bugs and birds that I see on an app called ‘inaturalist.’ It’s actually really cool. You just upload the photo, and it suggests an identification. Here are the different ways that beetles showed up in my life:

• One showed up on my front door. (A harlequin flower beetle.)
• I was driving down the highway and I looked out the car window and one beetle was literally on a concrete embankment that was about 3 feet tall. (A cottonwood borer.)
• I had one on my bedroom window. (A huisache girdler.)
• I was sitting outside on the patio, and one started coming towards me on the grass on the patio. (A notch-mouthed ground beetle.)
• I was sitting outside with a glass of wine, and one literally flew and landed in my wine. (A long-jawed longhorn beetle.)

This occurred over a timespan of several months. And as I mentioned, I am a person who likes nature and I’m observant, but I have never in my life, ever seen so many beetles – some of them were highly unusual – like a harlequin flower beetle (the one on my door) which is a beautiful yellow and brown beetle, and the longhorn beetle (outside of my car window) which is black and white spotted with very long antennae.

And to add another level of ‘coincidence’ when I went to Egypt last year, I actually bought a scarab pendant. A scarab is a very common beetle symbol seen in ancient Egypt. So naturally, the question is – what do beetles represent? Beetles represent rebirth and transformation. The spiritual awakening process itself could be considered a rebirth. You are waking up and remembering who you are. However, this process isn’t just a one-time event growth spurts occur in waves. You go through one phase, and then another, some more intense than others.

For me personally, this year marks the 10^th anniversary of my Kundalini activation. (I’ll have to write another post to reflect on that.) At this point in my journey, I’m in another intense growth period, highly focused on learning and growing from a spiritual perspective. Seeing beetles at this juncture makes a lot of sense to me. The universe is reflecting back and confirming to me – that I am indeed, in a period of rebirth and transformation! You may also start noticing other animals or insects during your journey that align with where you are at in your journey.

You may have seen memes before where people are trying to get confirmation or signs from their spirit guides, and they are not sure if they are getting any answers from their spiritual team. Is this a sign or not? I think that is one of the challenges regarding signs, is that they are not always so clear. When I walk to the grocery store and see a black feather – is that a sign indicating I’m protected? Or is it just that there are a bunch of blackbirds that like to congregate in the parking lot and I’m just seeing the evidence of them being there? In these instances, I like to take delight in seeing the black feather – whether or not it was a specific message to me or not.

Now I want to share a couple of examples that were quite mind-blowing and when you have these types of signs, they are absolutely incredible to experience. The first one is regarding a bird. I had been listening to Jerry and Ester Hicks and one of their manifestation videos.  In this video – they recommended to ‘test’ the Universe and the power of manifestation. They have said that one of the reasons that we put up blocks to manifestation is because we don’t believe it can happen – that we have resistance. In this exercise, they said – just ask the universe to show you 3 things. The first thing I wrote down was a very particular, highly colorful bird that is very rare to see in the area where I live. It is called a Painted bunting. It is blue, green, yellow and red – a very unusual bird to see. I wrote down a list of 3 things I wanted to see.  I can’t remember the other two. Then I went about my normal business forgetting about it. In my mind, I’m thinking that there is no way that I’m going to see this bird, because the only time I might see one is in the month of April when they are migrating, and this wasn’t the time of the year to see them. Well, the next day, I received a message from an old coworker on LinkedIn. In the message he told me “I remember that you liked birds, and I saw this article and thought of you so I’m sending it to you.” The article was about a PAINTED BUNTING!! I could NOT believe it! I asked, the Universe delivered! I wanted to see a painted bunting and the universe aligned the right people, the right information for me to receive that information!

To this day, that is one of my favorite stories to share! Now onto the second story, this one just happened recently which is why I wanted to write this article. In my current spiritual practices I had been calling on spirit guides for assistance, not so much Jesus or God. And I didn’t feel like I was receiving guidance, so I had been frustrated. As I mentioned earlier, one of the tools I like to use for guidance is Oracle Cards. I recently purchased a new deck that I really like – they are the Archangel Michael cards. I pulled the “Pray” card two times in a row. I thought to myself that is interesting because I have not been praying so I guess I need to start praying.

A couple days later, I was walking my dog early in the morning. I like to walk him when it’s still dark outside and you can see the stars. There is one spot that is open where I like to stop and look up at the stars.  I looked up at the sky, and I said in my mind – “God if you are there, can you show me a shooting star?”  And yes, I saw a shooting star immediately! I actually started crying with emotion to have received such an incredible sign! Now this was in August during the end of the Perseid meteor showers, so a meteor was not so farfetched, but that was the only one that I saw, and it was immediately upon my asking so I was beyond thrilled! This further deepened my realization that I needed to get back to my connection with Source/God.

When you feel you need guidance, a sign from the universe about something – just ask! And then pay attention to what shows up. It may be subtle or it may be so obvious that you can’t help but notice. Once you become more open to the many ways that information may come to you, through a friend, a star, a feather and even a bug – there are countless ways that the universe can show you that it is listening!
